ACTION TIMELINE

2001 – President Bill Clinton designated more than 487,000 acres of south-central Arizona as the Sonoran Desert National Monument.

2006 – The Center met with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management regarding the future conservation of Sonoran Desert National Monument.  As a result, several illegal off-road vehicle trails were closed.

May 14, 2008 – The Bureau of Land Management moved to protect the Sonoran Desert National Monument from off-road vehicle abuse by closing 89 miles of routes.
